Script of Saga: Story of a Thief - Episode Four

Script of Saga: Story of a Thief is an online Flash animation series portaying the incidents and interactions between the players in an online RPG known as Stella Quest (an English version of the popular Japanese Script of Saga).

Jul 30, 2005: Hey, hey! Yes, the latest episode is here again. And jammed pack with action and beauty. You may need to watch the animation a few times to truly appreciate my work. Why do you think people go to galleries and stare at a masterpiece for so long? To see what the artist did. Well, if you really cannot appreciate or see anything special, highlight the text below and see the spoilers. But I do hope you try staring at it a few times before reading the spoilers and see how "artistic" you are. The bits I did are pretty intricate so even if you have seen the original animated sprite from feplanet or Fire Emblem, only a keen eye can spot the difference.

Those who have been following my work would notice that I no longer used the platforms for the background for the sprites to stand on. Instead, the sprites are now posed on ground level of the picture so it feels less 3D but it has a more movie feel.

Unlike the previous episode, this is a night scene, observe how I dimmed the thief to blend in the scene.

Yes, the wizard is glowing! Fire Emblem sprite do not glow but I feel in a fantasy world, most magic users would have some form of illumination to traverse in the wilderness. Furthermore, it suits the night scene pretty well!

Did you catch that magic symbol just before the lightning strike?

Most amateur FE animators always animated the lightning with a black outline, they did not blend it with the environment and it looks so awkward. Note that I did not just blend, I also blurred glowed and even hued the lightning images just to get this realistic effect.

Expert FE animators would notice that I accelerated the lightning by one frame because I find the sprite looks more natural to face the other direction when the lightning strikes since he is the one casting the spell and is anticipating the strike already.

Just the lightning hitting the ground make the lightning look powerless... Add a erupting animation on the ground. Add some red smoke. BOOM! That was shockingly powerful. Otherwise, what could have cause the gust to blow the wizard cape to flap so long? A weak strike won't create much wind.

A badly burnt (darkened) thief, he got burnt and was giving off smoke after the strike. Did you notice that?

Did you notice the wizard walking back to position?

Did you see the thief trying to attack before the strike?

Well, it has been fun these few months. Working on these episodes was interesting but I think I should move on. I promised a telephony site with daily free large mobile logo. Should be possible...next week perhaps? But if you want to see the next episode, don't hesitiate to comment, and I will see if I can do it out of spare time...
